National Lottery players make Christmas special for disabled children

This week in the run up to Christmas we’re celebrating some of the amazing projects that we’ve funded this year that are making an amazing difference to communities.

Earlier this year we surprised Bridgend and District Resource for Children with Disabilities (Y Bont) with the news that they were successful in applying for a National Lottery grant of £530,000. Read more about it here.

Over five years will support disabled children and their families in Bridgend to reduce the challenges they face, in particular isolation and a lack of social opportunities, encouraging them to develop peer support amongst each other, build relationships and enjoy an active lifestyle through activities that include the whole family.

Alex Davies from our Mid and West team went back to visit them to see what difference the project is making, and what their plans are for Christmas this year.

“Being able to surprise Y Bont with the news that they were successful in their application has been one of the highlights of my year, and I could see just how important it was to parents and families in Bridgend to have those services that bring people together. Going back to visit them really reaffirmed that and it’s National Lottery players that make all of it possible.”

Paisley Thompson-Bailey, Fundraising and Marketing Officer told us, “We’re just so grateful to be given this money by the National Lottery Community Fund to help us with our Family Fun Zone project. It’s a great opportunity for us to reconnect with our community, reach out to past parents and also to new parents as well.

“We’re really excited this Christmas, we’ve got some great activities like our Christmas grand raffle which brings in all our parents from the last 21 years, they love supporting it and also our children’s Christmas party as well. I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank all the National Lottery players for supporting the National Lottery.”
